These photographs are representing how the buildings have changed through time. An old photograph has been digitally edited onto a modern day photo to show time and how things change throughout the years. The photograph is a mixture of black and white and colour as one image is modern and the other image is old. The lighting used is natural sunlight as the image is being taken outside however the brightness and contrast may have been increased to bring out the colours and to make the image stand out more. The image is angled straight on so the lighting is not shadowing the building. When looking at the image it shows us how they are comparing the same building but in different decades. Also we could say the image is reflective and memorable as people can look at the images and reminisce about past events. I think the artist has created the image to show the change through the years and to help people compare how buildings and infrastructure are developing.
Edits
These four images are my response to the artists’ work as they are representing what the photographer did. To have these final images had to be digitally manipulated and research had to be done to find the old images. To complete this work photos were captured in the modern day so these could be compared to the old. When this was done I took sections of old images which would fit into the modern day image and edited that part of the image using Photoshop. The border of the old image was kept on as this is what the photographer Jim Adams does, he leaves the images as blocked images so they look separate from the modern day image.
Development
To develop the idea even more I decided to do dip tags which are images which are side to side of each other so the two images can be compared to one another. By laying the modern day image next to an image I found by researching using the internet it shows comparisons and how things have changed over time. With pairing the images up at the side of each other it gives us a chance to think how infrastructure has changed over the years or even decades. With the older images also being in black in white it gives the dip tags more of an atmosphere and reality that all buildings are changing and starting to disappear through time. Using this idea for development it links in with the theme of the paired and time through infrastructure. However in my opinion the first two development ideas link in more as the two images which are old and modern are almost identical to each other and these images give us more of a mood and atmosphere. The feeling these images give when looked at is it is scary how buildings and infrastructure can be developed and change so quickly through the years.
